Motorway service stations and large fuel retailers will have to install electric vehicle charging points under proposed new laws announced in the Queen’s Speech.

Under the Automated and Electric Vehicles Bill, which covers England, Wales and Scotland, the EV charge points would also have to conform to common technical and operational standards.

The proposals follow significant recent uptake of electric vehicle ownership. Recent Department for Transport statistics showed that UK registrations of ultra-low emission vehicles had hit the 100,000 mark for the first time.
