Mayor plans to levy most-polluting vehicles from April 2019

4th April 2017

Mayor Sadiq Khan has announced that the owners of the most polluting vehicles will face a daily charge to drive within central London from 8 April 2019. This is subject to a public consultation starting today and running until 25 June.

Central London will be the world’s first Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) and will cover the same area as the existing congestion charging zone.

The introduction of ULEZ is estimated to result in a nearly 50 per cent reduction in emissions by 2020.
