Swedish ‘e-way’ wired for power

12th July 2016

Electrified trucks are running on power from overhead wires in a world-first Swedish trial.

A 2km stretch of the right-hand lane on the E16 motorway near Gävle has been turned into an ‘e-way’ that allows two modified Scania G360 trucks to pull power from the wires.

The hybrid vehicles have current conductors on their roofs and can automatically connect at speeds of up to 56mph. The vehicles can return to a diesel-electric mode to switch to other lanes if necessary.
