Electric vehicles are now “mainstream and not a compromise”, a recent Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) webinar was told.

The session, discussing fleet fuels of the future, featured representatives of Volkswagen, electric solutions provider Ensto and Anglian Water, which is aiming to reach a 100 per cent electric fleet.

Stewart Lightbody, head of fleet services at Anglian Water, said: “Electric vehicles are now mainstream and there is no real compromise.

“It is about doing the right thing in the communities in which we live and work. We are trying to convince ‘white van man’ to go electric.

“It is about demystifying what an electric vehicle looks and feels like.”

James O’Neill, UK sales director at Ensto, added: “Fleet adoption is where electric vehicle take-up is happening.

“For the most part, demand is for plug-in hybrid due to the attractiveness of benefit-in-kind tax.”
