Mayor: ULEZ to start in 2019
London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) will come into effect on 8 April 2019, the Mayor of London has announced.
Sadiq Khan’s confirmation of the early introduction date comes shortly after the launch of the Toxicity Charge (or ‘T-Charge’), which the ULEZ will replace.
The T-Charge only applies on weekdays, but the ULEZ will operate all day, every day.
The new measure is expected to affect around up to 60,000 vehicles on a daily basis, with those not confirming to what Transport for London describes as “the tightest emission standard adopted in the world” incurring a charge in addition to the Congestion Charge.
Cars, vans and motorbikes not meeting the ULEZ requirements will incur a charge of £12.50 per day, while lorries, buses and coaches will incur a cost of £100 per day.
