The Department for Transport has announced its amendment to authorised vehicle weight and dimensions regulations.

Intended to encourage the use of environmentally friendly fuels, the changes allow additional weight amounts for many larger vehicles.

With some exceptions, HGVs are now permitted an extra one tonne allowance if the weight of their fuel tanks or batteries exceed the weight of corresponding conventional vehicle components.

New hydrogen or liquefied natural gas vehicles will also no longer require vehicle special orders.
