A new scheme has been launched to enable the retrofitting of vehicle fleets with technologies that reduce their emissions.

The Clean Vehicle Retrofit Accreditation Scheme has been developed by the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership (LowCVP) and the Energy Saving Trust to provide a single standard for any emission-based retrofit technology to be measured against.

The scheme’s initial objective is to develop a set of test protocols to accredit technologies that deliver on-road emission levels equivalent to Euro VI/6, based on the best available independent data.

Potential suppliers will be apply for accreditation with any credible emission-reducing technology.

Andy Eastlake, Managing Director at LowCVP, said: “By making sure that we fit a range of the most appropriate technologies to the right vehicles, retrofitting can make a very significant, immediate impact on our air quality problems.”
